Conversations in the Discipline: Working Together Toward a Better Quality

"We must never forget that we may also find meaning in life even when confronted with a hopeless situation, when facing a fate that cannot be changed...When we are no longer able to change a situation, ...we are challenged to change ourselves." (Victor Frankl)

Conversations in the Discipline: Working Together Toward a Better Quality

Caring for a human being at the end of life is a complex and challenging issue. Care needs to be delivered in the most holistic and humane way possible. During the CID conference our goal is to target a multi-professional audience who deal with the subject area in their work or research. Therefore, this conversation is designed as an open forum for discussion by nurses, physicians, social workers, psychologists, chaplains, and other health professionals. It is our plan to also integrate presentations from those who are familiar with the portrayal of death, dying and grief in music, art, and literature (e.g.: Philosophy, Religion, English Literature and Music). We hope that this multi-professional and interdisciplinary approach will be profoundly helpful in building a new understanding of a paradigm shift toward better quality care, which would be based on an integral approach to life and its end.
