
Dr. Ferrell is a research scientist and educator at the City of Hope Cancer Center, Department of Nursing. She is nationally and internationally known for her work in the areas of pain management, quality of life and end of life care for cancer patients. She is a Fellow of The American Academy of Nursing and a member of The National Cancer Policy Forum (a new initiative of the Institute of Medicine). She has authored numerous articles in academic journals as well as books on the subject of oncology & palliative care.
Dr. Quill will report and provide an overview and assessment of the current state of the end of life care in the Upstate New York. The report on research project recently conducted by the center identifies multiple existing data sets that can be used to assess end of life quality care in New York State, and examines the extent of variations in end of life care quality measures in hospitals, nursing homes, hospice programs, and home health care agencies in New York state, providing comparison to national benchmarks.

Dr. Norton coordinates research on: Cost-Benefit Analysis of Inpatient Palliative Care Consultation Understanding End-of-Life Practice Patterns in NYS Nursing Homes. Dr. Norton has authored numerous articles in academic journals on the subject of quality and decision making process within end of life care (including the ICU and hospital settings).
Pamela Stewart Fahs RN DSN is the Decker Chair in Rural Nursing. She was the project director of the CID program previously presented through the Decker School of Nursing. She is funded by The National Institute of Nursing Research to study cardiovascular health in rural women.
Gale Spencer PhD, RN is The Decker Chair in Community Health Nursing. She is the project director of a grant from HRSA to prepare advanced practice community health nurses.
Laura Bronstein, ACSW, PhD is the Chair of the Department of Social Work in The College of Community and Public Affairs at Binghamton University. She is an adult nurse practitioner who has had extensive clinical experience with older adults.
Maureen Daws RN, M.S. is a clinical instructor in the Decker School of Nursing. She attended training for end of life care sponsored by The American Association of Colleges of Nursing and received an award from that organization to recognize her work in infusing the content into the nursing programs in The Decker School.
Melanie Kalman PhD, RN is Associate Professor of Nursing in the College of Nursing at Upstate Medical University in Syracuse.
Lynda E. Shand PhD, RN is Associate Professor of Nursing at The College of New Rochelle in New Rochelle, New York. She has a long standing interest in end of life care.
Sister Marilyn Perkins, DC is the Chair of the Southern Tier End of Life Coalition. She is widely seen as the leader of the palliative care movement in the community.
